How to store crayfish

Crayfish is a useful product and at the same time a wonderful treat for relatives and friends, perfectly suited for both a formal dinner and a picnic in nature. Its only negative quality is the property to deteriorate very quickly. The best way to use crayfish is immediately after the catch, but it is not always possible to put it into practice. Therefore, the issue of storage of crayfish always remains relevant. In order to eat fresh crustaceans in a few days after fishing, you need to know a few small tricks.

Priority Events

Even before the process of catching you need to take care of a comfortable place for keeping arthropods. It must be a sturdy tank with ventilation that needs to be submerged in the water along with the crayfish. Do not forget to feed the future treat, so that individuals do not lose weight. When transporting, a box or a special container with the cold accumulation function must be covered with a damp cloth. Suitable for transport and large canvas bag dipped in water. In the process of movement, make sure that the tank with crayfish does not overheat, including from the sun.

If all conditions are met, your catch will be able to stay alive for up to 4 hours.

How to keep crayfish fresh at home

There are several proven techniques to keep crayfish alive in an apartment setting.

  • The best way to prevent cancers from falling asleep ahead of time is to create conditions close to natural for them, that is, to put them in a container with fresh water. Depending on the number of arthropods, this can be either a bucket or a bath. It is best to take the river water in which you want to lower the metal mesh or box with crayfish. A prerequisite for long-term storage is the daily replacement of water for fresh, as crayfish need a lot of oxygen. In order for animals not to lose weight and not start eating each other, they need regular feeding, such as fish, raw potatoes, nettle, alder leaves or pea pods. Food should be enough for all crustaceans, because its lack can provoke aggressive behavior with subsequent injuries. Crayfish, which receive plant food, behave less hostile to each other. With this method of storage is required to carefully monitor the health of individuals and immediately remove the dead specimens. Dead crayfish exude a strong smell, and during cooking they can accidentally get into a common pan and spoil the whole dish. Indeed, even with the use of other animals, boiled in the same water with the dead, the toxins of the latter can cause serious poisoning.

It is very simple to distinguish a falling cancer from a living one: its neck becomes absolutely straight, and the individual itself remains motionless.

Using this method, it is possible to keep the crayfish alive for a period of up to 5-7 days.

  • Another fairly effective way allows you to store live crayfish for about 4 days. To do this, the catch must be rinsed in running water, placed in a plastic bag or container, covered with a damp cloth. This temporary shelter should be put in a refrigerator, preferably in a freshness zone for vegetables and fruits, where the temperature is always zero. Remember to check regularly whether all arthropods feel good. Asleep individuals immediately remove.
  • The third, “dry,” method is to store crustaceans in cool conditions with high humidity. After all, the gills of these animals are quite suitable for breathing in air. If only there was a sufficient amount of moisture and good air circulation. If the room is well ventilated, and you do not forget to regularly spray the catch out of the sprayer, your crayfish will quite safely spend a couple of days in such conditions. For this method of storage is well suited cellar, balcony or shed. The main thing is that the temperature there does not fall below +3 ° C.

But sometimes it happens that the guests invited “to the crayfish” are delayed for some reason and the event is postponed until the time when the delicacy cannot be kept alive. • The arthropod meat will remain fresh only when it is stored at a low temperature, but not in the freezer. When frozen meat changes its structure and loses all taste.
