Potassium Ferrocyanide (E536): Effect on the Body

Potassium Ferrocyanide (E536): Effect on the Body

Potassium ferrocyanide (E536) is a dangerous additive, the use of which in the food industry is prohibited on the territory of several countries. In our country, it is commonly added to ordinary table salt as an anti-caking component that prevents the formation of lumps. Also this food additive inherent technological functions of the illuminator.

Natural raw salt has a grayish color, which many may find ugly, "dirty." With the addition of E536, salt becomes much brighter and brighter than manufacturers who want to sell this relatively inexpensive product at inflated prices.

In winemaking E536 performs the functions of an emulsifier, through which excess cations of heavy metals are removed from the wine material. And especially enterprising manufacturers even manage to include E536 in the sausage products. “To learn” such a product is not difficult, because it gives itself off as a whitish bloom on the shell.

What danger does the E-536 hold?

Yellow crystalline powder is obtained by chemical synthesis in the gas purification process at gas plants. From the name it becomes clear that the substance includes cyanide compounds. We think that readers do not need to explain what cyanide potassium is. Depending on the method of production, the already toxic E536 can form additional cyanides, up to hydrocyanic acid.

In the Russian Federation, the use of an additive is permitted, but its quantity in the finished product is regulated. For table salt, dosages of up to 20 milligrams of potassium ferrocyanide per kilogram of salt are considered permissible. However, even in such dosages, E536 can cause irreparable harm to the body.

Problems caused by potassium ferrocyanide:

  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • diseases of the liver and gallbladder;
  • skin problems (purulent inflammation, acne, acne, dermatitis);
  • nervous system disorders;
  • diseases of the lymphatic system;
  • serious intoxication of the whole organism.

Effect on the body

Scientists do not undertake to comment on the situation with a dangerous emulsifier, which is universally used even where it could be dispensed with. It is not known for certain what is the reason for such silence: with the reluctance to get problems from higher authorities, which could benefit from using the E536, or with a banal indifference to the fate of society.

However, the fact remains that all substances in the name of which the “cyanide” particle is present are certainly dangerous. And only after carrying out the corresponding biological tests, it will be possible to know for sure how harmful these or other dosages of potassium ferrocyanide are. But, think about whether you are ready to consume such salt every day? Give it to your children? After all, who knows: perhaps this is how you slowly “collect” a time bomb in your body, which one day can irrevocably destroy your health.
