Herring is an excellent source of protein, it contains large amounts of such vitamins as potassium, calcium, iodine, phosphorus, zinc, fluorine, magnesium. And therefore, in Russia, herring has a special position in the kitchen. The popularity of such an ingredient as herring is noted in many European countries. It is eaten as a separate dish, used to make some pies, but, of course, herring is most often found in many salads. We understand that now you immediately recall such a salad as “Herring under a fur coat”, without which not a single New Year or Christmas table can do. Moreover, today there are several interpretations of this salad. But we will try to cook some other types of salad, in which the main ingredient is herring, learn to properly combine the ingredients, learn some secrets that kindly experienced chefs will share with us.

Recipe 1. Herring Salad

Ingredients Required:

- Herring fillet - 250 g;

- hard-boiled eggs - 2 pcs .;

- pickled cucumbers - 2 pcs .;

- apples - 2 pcs .;

- red onion - 1 pc .;

- European mayonnaise - 2 tbsp.

- low-fat sour cream - 2 tbsp.


Peel the apple and cut it into small cubes. Pickled cucumbers, too, cut into the same cubes. Finely chop the boiled egg and red onion with a sharp knife. All the ingredients are separately laid out in plates, because the salad will lay out layers. It remains to fillet herring, which we also need to cut into small cubes. Combine mayonnaise and sour cream, pepper with ground pepper, salt to taste. Stir. Beautiful creamers are ideal for serving this salad. Spread the salad on the ice creams in layers. First, lay a layer of herring on the bottom of the ice-cream pan or wide glass. On top of it - a layer of onions. Pour over cooked sauce. Then distribute a layer of apples and pour over the sauce again. Finally lay out a layer of eggs, and also pour the sauce. We give the prepared salad right in the bowls to stand in the fridge for 2 hours. Then serve it to the table. From above we will decorate with a thin ring of lemon and a sprig of greens.

Recipe 2. Herring Salad with Potatoes

Ingredients Required:

- boiled potatoes - 2-3 pcs .; - tomatoes - 2 pcs .;

- onions - 2 pcs .;

- Herring fillet - 2 pcs .;

- boiled egg - 2 pcs .;

- cooked carrot - 2 pcs .;

- Fresh cucumber - 2 pcs .;

- mayonnaise - 4 tbsp. l .;

- sauce “Moscow”, vinegar, salt and lettuce leaves.


Cooked products gently clean. Now all the ingredients listed in the recipe we need to grind into small cubes. Mix the salad cubes into a bowl and fill them with vinegar. Stir. Then add mayonnaise and Moscow sauce to the salad. Stir, add a little ground pepper and place in a deep glass bowl. Beautifully decorate with a sprig of greenery and a piece of lime.

Recipe 3. Herring Salad with Bell Peppers

Ingredients Required:

- uncooked potatoes - 3 pcs .;

- hard-boiled chicken egg - 2 pcs .;

- Bulgarian peppers - 2 pcs .;

- pickled cucumbers - 2 pcs .;

- onion feathers;

- Red onion 2 pcs .;

- Herring - 1 pc .;

- canned peas - 3 tbsp.

- mayonnaise - 2 tbsp.


Cut 1 onion into rings, pour boiling water over it, add some sugar and vinegar. Set aside to marinate the rings.

Peel the potatoes and eggs and cut them into cubes. Similarly, chop the herring fillet, pickled cucumbers one onion and peeled peppers. Mix, add green peas, mix and season with mayonnaise. Decorate the salad in a salad bowl from above with marinated onion rings and sprinkle with chopped green onion feathers. This salad can also be served in portions, put it in a form on a plate. Recipe 4. Herring recipe with apple

Ingredients Required:

- herring - 1 pc .;

- green onion 2 feathers;

- carrot - 1 pc .;

- capers - 1 tbsp. l .;

- garlic - 2 slices;

- olive oil - 50 ml;

- potatoes - 4 pcs .;

- Apple - 1 pc .;

- parsley - 2 branches, spices: curry, ground black pepper and sea salt.


We clean the herring, cut off the tail and head, remove the ridge - we should have two neat filles. Cut them across 6-8 cm long. Clean the carrots and cut them into medium sized cubes. Pour some olive oil into the pan and fry carrot cubes in it until soft. Finely chop the feathers of onions. You can also use the white part of onions - the taste will not spoil because of this, but in the salad it looks more green. Chop parsley. You can do two things with potatoes for this salad: boil it in a uniform or bake it in the oven. Let cool, peel and cut in half lengthwise, and then into thin slices (approximately the same as herring). We clean the apples and cut them into thin slices. Pour lemon juice over the slices and mix quickly.

We take a bowl, put in it a carrot, herring, potatoes, add capers and salt. Mix with a wooden spoon. Add green onions, apples, parsley.

Slice the garlic with a pestle in a mortar, add curry to the garlic mass, a little bit of olive oil and grind to form a sauce. Fill the salad with it and gently mix it upwards.

Salad ready. Of course, you can submit this salad to the table immediately after preparation, but still I would like to recommend that you give it time to brew at least 1 hour. All the ingredients in the salad are well soaked with sauce, and you get the delicate texture of the salad and the wonderful taste of all the ingredients soaked in the sauce.

Recipe 5. Herring Salad

Ingredients Required:

- herring fillets - 1 pc .;

- potatoes - 4 pcs .;

- Onions - 1 pc .;

- eggs - 3 pcs .;

- mayonnaise and ground black pepper.


Boil potatoes and eggs in separate pots. Let cool, clean and dice. Fillet of herring is lowered to steep in milk for 15-20 minutes, then rinse it with water and cut into cubes. Mix all products, pour 0.5 tsp. ground pepper and mayonnaise. Salad is served in baskets that you need to make from the fruits of a tomato.
