The capelin of some housewives is not honored - it is considered a cheap product, more suitable for feeding cats than a person. However, this “cat” fish is actually very healthy and tasty, if properly prepared. The most common method of cooking capelin is roasting it in a pan in oil. This method of cooking reduces the benefits of fish and increases the calorie content of the dish. A much more dietary dish is capelin baked in the oven.

A capelin baked in the oven will be much tastier and healthier if you choose and prepare it correctly.

  • It is better to purchase capelin in vacuum packaging, and not by weight. Otherwise, you risk buying an expired product or a large amount of ice glaze.
  • Thaw the fish slowly at room temperature or in a refrigerator. In this case, the dish made from it will be more tender and juicy. After thawing the capelin should be washed and dried with a kitchen towel.
  • A capelin can be eaten whole without cleaning it. This saves a lot of time. But if you wish, you can clean the fish - then it will be much more pleasant to eat.
  • The capelin is fat enough so that it can be baked in the oven without oil. However, in cases where the oil is not used, the baking sheet or the form should be covered with foil or parchment.
  • Capelin is cooked quickly, but other products that make up the dish may have different cooking times. For this reason, bake capelin should be exactly as specified in the recipe.
  • The specific smell of capelin will help discourage lemon juice. They should sprinkle the fish and leave to marinate for half an hour. Make it desirable, even if there are no relevant instructions in the recipe.

An oven baked capelin: a classic recipe

Composition:

  • capelin - 0, 6-0, 7 kg;
  • wheat flour - 100 g;
  • salt - 10 g;
  • ground black pepper - 5 g.

Method of preparation:

  • Sift flour, mix it with salt and pepper.
  • Thaw, wash, dry the capelin.
  • Dip the fish, without undoing, in the flour.
  • Put parchment on baking sheet, put capelin on it.
  • Place in an oven warmed to 220 degrees for 15 minutes.

The capelin prepared in such a way differs little from the fried according to the classic recipe. However, it is much more useful and easier as it is prepared without oil. Similarly, you can cook capelin in breadcrumbs using them instead of flour.

Capelin marinated in soy sauce, baked in the oven

Composition:

  • capelin - 0, 5 kg;
  • soy sauce - 20 ml;
  • curry seasoning - 2-3 g;
  • sugar - 2-3 g;
  • black ground pepper - a pinch;
  • vegetable oil - 20 ml.

Method of preparation:

  • Prepare the capelin by defrosting it and drying it with a napkin. Do not need to clean it.
  • Add pepper, curry and sugar to soy sauce, stir, marinate capelin in this sauce. Marinate need an hour, occasionally stirring, so that the marinade fell on each fish.
  • Grease a baking sheet with oil or soak a parchment on the baking sheet. Put the fish marinated in soy sauce.
  • Bake at 200 degrees for 20-25 minutes depending on the size of the capelin.

Composition:

  • mayonnaise - 0, 2 l;
  • bulb onion - 0, 2 kg;

  • black ground pepper - 5 g.

Method of preparation:

  • Prepare the capelin: defrost, wash, blot and marinate. In addition to salt and pepper, you can also use lemon juice. Per kilogram of capelin enough 20 ml of this juice.
  • Peel the bulbs and cut them into rings.
  • Put parchment on the baking sheet, brush it with oil.
  • Put the onion on a baking tray.
  • Put capelin on the onion, smear it with mayonnaise.

Composition:

  • capelin - 1 kg;
  • onions - 0, 75 kg;
  • vegetable oil - 100 ml;
  • flour - 80 g;
  • salt, seasoning for fish - to taste.

Method of preparation:

  • Chopped onions cut into rings.
  • Wash capelin, blot with a napkin.
  • Add seasoning and salt to flour, stir.
  • Pour the butter onto the pan, spread it over the whole area.
  • Sprinkle flour on the baking tray and place about a third of the prepared onion on it.
  • Roll the capelin in flour and place on the onion. Cover with remaining onions.
  • Bake at a temperature of 180-200 degrees for 40-50 minutes, until the onion has a golden hue.

Despite the fact that the recipe of this dish is simple, it turns out very tasty.

Capelin Baked in Egg

Composition:

  • capelin - 1 kg;
  • eggs - 2 pcs .;
  • vegetable oil - 50 ml;
  • flour - 100 g;
  • Spices and salt - to taste.

Method of preparation:

  • Wash defrosted capelin, dry with a towel.
  • Beat one egg in a bowl, place capelin in it. Salt, season. Mix well.
  • Dip the fish in flour and place on a greased baking tray. Put it in the oven, preheated to 200 degrees, for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven, beat the second egg, coat the fish with it and send to the oven for another 15 minutes.

They serve capelin prepared according to this recipe in pieces, like a casserole. You can sprinkle with chopped green onions.

Capelin baked with potatoes and cheese

Composition:

  • capelin - 1 kg;
  • potatoes - 0, 7 kg;
  • butter - 50 g;
  • flour - 50 g;
  • vegetable oil - how much will leave;
  • sour cream - 100 g;
  • cheese - 0, 2 kg;
  • salt, pepper - to taste.

Method of preparation:

  • Divide the capelin by removing the head and cleaning it.
  • Dip in flour mixed with spices, fry in a pan in vegetable oil. If desired, this stage can be skipped and baked capelin unroasted.
  • Peel the potatoes, cut into slices.
  • Lubricate the form with butter. Put half of the potatoes, salt and pepper them, put capelin on it, cover with the remaining potatoes, sprinkle it with salt and pepper too.
  • Smear potatoes with sour cream mixed with finely grated cheese. Put in the oven, preheating it to 200 degrees. Bake for an hour.

According to this recipe, a full-fledged dish is prepared for which no side dish is needed.

An oven baked capelin is an easy-to-prepare dish that is not expensive at all. Nevertheless, it turns out very tasty and appetizing.
